Material Illusions, graduation project, Central Saint Martins London (MA Material Futures)
Bahia sculpture, Waste denim + resin, 45x60x35, 2014
This body of work explores the inherent, yet often complex, relationship between human and nature and is an attempt to visualise how materials of the anthropocene may look like. The materials produced mimic natural forms such as lava, wood, shells, sedimentary layers, or marble. Yet, their origins are rooted in the residues of our daily live - newspapers, textiles, Styrofoam, and glass - fragments of human consumption. Through experiments with these discarded elements and processes that emulate natural phenomena, the project gives rise to materials that symbolise a hybrid existence: a human-made nature, one that challenges what we perceive as natural and what we create.
